It was a solution for a problem that was asked by Leonardo of Pisa (more popularly known as Fibonacci amongst the pretentious one's) in his book Liber Abaci. Available in the West until Leonardo of Lisa (whom later historians dubbed 'Fibonacci') learned it from North African traders and described it in his book Liber abaci (The Book of Calculating), which first appeared in 1202. The Fibonacci sequence is named after Leonardo of Pisa, who was known as Fibonacci. The riddle was about how rabbits breed with each other. A piece of history worth noting: Leonardo of Pisa (Fibonacci), first wrote about this sequence in his 1202 book, Liber Abaci. (Fibonacci's 1202 book Liber Abaci introduced the Fibonacci sequence to Western European mathematics). Fibonacci was taught mathematics in Bugia and travelled widely with his father and recognised the enormous advantages of the mathematical systems used in the countries they visited. The book presented the numbers in a riddle. Liber Abaci formally introduced the Fibonacci Sequence to the world. In it he outlines a puzzle regarding how fast rabbits could reproduce in ideal circumstances. Fibonacci himself used convention 3 above.
